Francisco Lopez Ochoa


Well known as a sculptor and printmaker, Ochoa's stone sculptures have been commissioned world wide for public spaces in Japan, the Czech Republic and Mexico. Large and small scale pieces are in private collections in England, Mexico, Holland and throughout the United States.

Ochoa draws inspiration from primitive sources: prehistoric, Egyptian, Early Greek, pre-Columbian and admires the work and forms of Zuniga and the Mexican masters Rivera and Orozco. To date, Ochoa's imagery has been figurative. In 2005 utilitarian sculpture was added to his oeuvre.

Ochoa was born in 1949 in Choix, Sinaloa, Mexico. Iin 1976 he earned a B.A and M.A. in linguistics from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1978 he completed his post graduate studies in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University. He studied art technique at the Art Students League of New York and the Summit Center in New Jersey. He currently makes his primary home in New Mexico where he also has his studio. He maintains a secondary residence in his hometown in Mexico.
